Sallisaw, OK
We hitched the Jeep to the RV and pulled onto the highway about 9:15 yesterday morning. All went smoothly until traffic on I-40 stopped east of Crossville, TN around 12:40. We quickly switched drivers...and sat...and sat...and sat. Although I was behind the wheel for almost three hours, I drove less than two miles. The news that trickled down the line of stopped vehicles was that a tanker truck had overturned and spilled part of its load. The road wouldn't open until the tanker had been pumped dry, righted and towed and the liquid removed from the road surface. Eventually emergency personnel allowed westbound traffic to use the 'Authorized Vehicles Only' crossover to go east to a narrow, hilly, twisty detour which intersected I-40 just a mile beyond where we exited. We arrived at the campground at 7:30, had a quick dinner and called it a day.
Today was chilly and overcast with a few brief periods of rain and pleasantly uneventful.
